Live Caricature Gig - Honda Transmission Manufacturing Annual Open House

Unknown
Honda Transmission Manufacturing here in Ohio has an annual open house event each October. This year I was invited to do some live caricatures. Check 'em out!

I was there for about 3.5 hours and did a little over 50 caricatures. That's a new record!

Teacher Caricature

Unknown
My cousin commissioned me to create this pencil drawing of a retiring teacher. She doesn't look old enough to retire (in my opinion), but after 30 years I guess it's time to hang it up!

Enjoy your retirement Mrs. Blust!

Thank you Google Photos! Caricature Animation

Unknown
I just downloaded and installed an app on my PC called Google Photos. It searched my hard drive and found the over 16,000 photos I had and then uploaded them to the cloud. So cool!

Not only that, it also creates these "creations" that can either be an animation, which is a series of photos that are similar mashed together to create an animated photo, a video compilation, a collage, or maybe a stylized creation based on your original photo.

Check out this animation of some caricatures I did several years ago:

Call me easily entertained, but I think that is so cool! :)

Lettering & Caricature - More of the Same!

Unknown
Seems these days that when I finish a caricature that I end up doing some lettering for fun. Anyways, to continue that trend, here's a caricature and some lettering!

This one was for a repeat customer of mine in the UK - not University of Kentucky!

Music Lady from the UK & Swing Lettering

Unknown
Another day, some more drawings! :)

The 'Swing' lettering was just more practicing with the Sharpie brush markers. Really diggin' those!

From the book, Lettering for Commercial Purposes (Signs of the Times Publishing, 1918):

"What is familiarly known as 'the swing' is absolutely necessary to do graceful lettering. But the swing of the arm and fingers in manipulating a pencil, brush, or pen must also include 'control' both on slow and rapid movements.

Having acquired the combination of swing and control by practice on certain exercises based on the elements of letters, consisting of circles, ovals, verticals and horizontal lines, strokes and angles, then actual formation of letters becomes a semi-automatic proposition directed by the brain through sight.

Primarily the sight is directed by the brain. Simply seeing an object denotes sight, but to see it as it really is requires study, either much or little, depending on the individual qualifications along certain lines"

A caricature of me!

Unknown
Went to Gatorland in Orlando today and a fellow caricaturist and I swapped caricatures. I did his and he did mine. Here's what mind looked like:

Thanks Ron!

Btw, Gatorland is amazing!! Here's me riding a gator. And yes, it's real!!

This is my "before" picture. I'm in the process of reducing and have lost 18 lbs so far. Lots more to go... :)
